I was advised to use, among other things, ginger tea to help with my stomach ailments. I must say it does have a calming effect on my stomach but I found it to be have powerful laxative properties. Is this normal or is my system that toxic. I have laid off the ginger due to these effects (read ouch!).

Any info appreciated.

Yes, that is exactly the effect that *excess* ginger has on me as well. The key is to find out just how much is *too* much for you.

I read a note, probably on this newsgroup, where too much ginger irritates the small intestine. You may find, as I do, that ginger tea and ginger beer in amounts in excess of one cup have a laxative effect, while grated ginger cooked into stir-fried vegetables does not. Strange.
