Northwestern America. The large, tapering root of this plant is said to be edible. It is an inmate of the flower garden in France.

Northwestern America. The roots of this species resemble those of a parsnip and are used as food by the Indians of Nebraska and Idaho. In France it is grown in flower gardens.
