A Handbook Of The Theory And Practice Of Medicine. By Frederick T. Roberts, M. D., M. R. C. P., Lecturer at the Liverpool School of Medicine. Philadelphia. Lindsay & Blakiston; Cincinnati, Robert Clarke & Co. Price $5.00.

The author remarks in his preface that "this work is intended mainly for the use of students, and its object is to present in one volume, such information with regard to the Principles and Practice of Medicine, as shall be sufficient not only to enable them to prepare for the various examinations which they have to undergo, but also to guide them in acquiring that clinical knowledge which can alone properly fit them for assuming the active duties of their profession."

The work is quite complete, and well deserves a more pretentious title than "Handbook," and will serve the purpose of the physician in active practice quite as well as the student. The author has evidently studied medicine for himself, and the. work is not filled with quotations, as is the case with many. He also has the method of a good lecturer, and presents his subject in such form that it is easily referred to and readily studied. We can commend this work to any of our readers who wish another work on the Practice of Medicine.

On The Reproductive Organs And The Venereal. By John M. Scudder, M. D., Professor of Pathology and the Practice of Medicine in the Eclectic Medical Institute. Illustrated with Wood Cuts and Colored Plates. Price. $5.00. Sent free by mail on receipt of price.

We wish simply to announce the publication of the new work, and refer the reader to the Table of Contents in the advertising sheet of this number for information in regard to the subjects discussed.

I will say once for all that it is written for physicians and not for popular reading. It is a study of a subject that has been very much neglected, because its free consideration has been deemed immodest, but I do not believe that doctors' modesty should go to this extent.
