Aqua Menthae Viridis (U. S. P.)—Spearmint Water.
Preparation.—"Oil of spearmint, two cubic centimeters (2 Cc.) [32♏]; precipitate of calcium phosphate, four grammes (4 Gm.) [62 grs.]; distilled water, a sufficient quantity to make one thousand cubic centimeters (1000 Cc.) [33 fl℥, 391♏]. Triturate the oil of spearmint with the precipitated calcium phosphate, add the distilled water gradually, under constant trituration, and filter"—(U. S. P.).
Action, Medical Uses, and Dosage.—Similar to those of peppermint water (see Aqua Menthae Piperitae), to which some persons prefer it. The dose is also the same. It is a useful vehicle for potassium acetate and other diuretics.
