98. POPULUS BALSAMIFERA.—BALM OF GILEAD BUDS. The buds of Pop'ulus balsamif'era Linné, variety candicans Gray. Populi Gemmae (Balsam Poplar buds, Balm of Gilead buds, N.F.). Habitat: Northern North America and Siberia. These buds, as well as those of other species of Populus, are covered with a resinous exudation which is impregnated with a fragrant volatile oil, and is very similar in medicinal action to the turpentine oleoresins. Dose of fl'ext.: 30 to 60 drops (2 to 4 mils).
