For the bloated feeling after meals: The other suggestions in this thread, i.e. for peppermint or other mints, or for "carminative" herbs like caraway or cumin, are all good. Before taking digestive enzymes, however, you might try taking "digestive tonic" herbs that promote secretion of your own enzymes. A classic formula is equal parts of gentian and ginger. Get them powdered and cap them yourself for the least expense. Take two of them three times a day (half hour before meals) for a month. also, the heavy feeling after meals can be a the first sign of dysfunction of the liver and gall bladder. This is usually not serious disease like hepatitis, but a mild dysfunction that the medicos do not have a name for. Eventually, outright gall bladder disease, inflammation or stones, may develop. Your bloating could be the first warning signs that your diet or exercise patterns are out of whack -- the liver NEEDS regular exercise to function properly, through diaphramatic pumping. A mild, long-term course of treatment for mild hepato-biliary disease is simple dandelion root tea twice a day.
