Mix 37.5 (7 ½ fluid ounces) of alcohol with 75 (15 fluid ounces) of water, and moisten the senna with the mixture. Pack tightly in a closed vessel, macerate for three days, express forcibly, and reserve the product. Add to the marc sufficient of the same menstruum to produce altogether 100 (20 fluid ounces) of product. Express again after twenty-four hours' maceration, and mix the product with the reserved portion. Heat in a closed vessel by means of a water-bath to 94°, and maintain at that temperature for ten minutes. When cold, add menstruum, if necessary, to make the liquid extract measure 100 (20 fluid ounces), and filter.
