Synonyms.—Ether Soap; Solutio Saponis Aetherea.

Oleic Acid 35.00 | 7 fl. ounces
Potassium Hydroxide Solution, saturated, a sufficient quantity.
Alcohol 15.00 | 3 fl. ounces
Oil of Lavender 0.20 | 20 minims
Methylated Ether (s.g., 0.720) to 100.00 | to 20 fl. ounces

Mix the oleic acid and alcohol and neutralise with the saturated solution of potassium hydroxide in water (1 in 1), of which nearly 7.5 (1 ½ fluid ounces) will be required, using phenolphthalein as indicator. Allow the neutralised product to cool, and add the oil and ether.

Ethereal soap solution should be kept in well-stoppered bottles.
