CARLINA ACAULIS, L. Ground Thistle. In Rhode Island and Virginia, according to Gronovius, Forster and Schoepf: omitted by all our late botanists, perhaps a Cnicus. Bitter, aromatic, acrid, graveolent, sudorific and stomachic, useful in hysterics and hypochondria. Schoepf.
