Glaucium. Glaucium flavum Crantz. Yellow Horned Poppy. Bruisewort. Pavot coma, Fr. Hornmohn, G. (Fam. Papaveraceae.)—An annual or biennial plant indigenous to Europe and sparingly naturalized in waste places from New England to Virginia. It contains a saffron-colored, milky juice, clasping leaves and solitary yellow flowers. Two alkaloids have been separated from this plant, sanguinarine and glaucine (Merck). Maepmann and Helt recommended the plant in the treatment of diabetes (Med. Neuigkeiten d. Pharm-Post., 1899, 346.)
