I had good results with Milk of Magnesia applied topically while I had active blisters. For the "after itch", you might try witch hazel applied topically as often as your skin can take it. It is quite drying, but seems to work great for itches of all sorts, including post-hepatic neuralgia and associated itch. (That's the fancy name for shingles that still hurt and itch after the blisters are gone.)

try prep. H and\or anusol....heard from an acute sufferer that the pain went away after two days and all disappeared after a week of use...
