Fog on a winter morning

Blog categories:

Beautiful photos from up north.

I was up north a week ago, and frost hit with the waters of the river Siikajoki still open.

The result was a very dense below-zero fog.

The sun rose 10ish, and I went out to get some photos. Enjoy:

It hasn't snowed all that much, as you can see from the not-quite-snowcovered field.Pic: It hasn't snowed all that much, as you can see from the not-quite-snowcovered field.

The river is much wider than this trickle, but fog obscures the rest of it.Pic: The river is much wider than this trickle, but fog obscures the rest of it.

Pretty, no?

After I took these pics I drove perhaps 30 km south. The road mostly followed the river, and the fog froze solid on the windscreen: I couldn't see because of the fog, and I couldn't see because my windscreen was frozen solid. The windshield wipers only helped so much, so I drove at perhaps 40 km/h.

They're waiting for a real winter up north, too.

Good Gaia,
that is beautiful...make me wish i was in a wintry'er clime ...thanksgiving, turkey, hot cider, foggy snowy river valley....yes...indeed...
thanks for sharing! the only pictures i got yesterday were of turkey and pie!

Ah, Darcey: no thanksgiving, no turkey, usually no hot cider either.
We do have a lot of xmas parties, and salmon, salted ham, and mulled wine.
