most sources give 'chew the plant', but the plant will show you that its root is best. try it and see!

medicinal and other uses of n american plants, c erichsen-brown pub dover 1989 also gives 'chew the root and apply to sprains' and 'leaves and roots rubbed on body before fire dances' and 'the flowers may be used as a smudge'.
